HARRISON McCAMPBELL
AIA Member Emeritus

OWNER & FORENSIC ARCHITECT

Harrison McCampbell earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Tennessee (1972) and is a registered Architect in the State of Tennessee.  Upon graduation from college, Mr. McCampbell worked for architecture firms in Tennessee and Texas for five years. In 1977, however, he started working in the construction industry, growing in knowledge and experience with the vastly-expanding field of roofing, eventually expanding his areas of interest to include the building envelope as a whole. Over the years his consistent mindset has been focusing on the various systems used to protect buildings, and not to just myopically chasing an individual leak. His work as a roofing and waterproofing consultant has involved him in field investigations, report and specification writing, code interpretation and compliance, and contract administration. In the 1980’s, he had lived and worked in New York and California before establishing his business in Tennessee in 1991.

His leak investigations have led him into other sectors of commercial and residential construction. Myriad moisture-related requests have involved many other related aspects of the building envelope--wall systems, windows, doors, waterproofing, and condensation. During the last decade, he has been brought into as a forensic architect to investigate analyze existing moisture-entry issues.

Mr. McCampbell has both attended and participated as an instructor in various seminars, symposiums, and workshops throughout his years in the roofing industry. He has been a guest lecturer on moisture-related construction issues for various clients, including the University of Tennessee School of Architecture, and was a staff member for the now defunct Roofing Industry Educational Institute when it was an educational extension of the National Roofing Contractors Association. He has been a guest speaker for the American Institute of Architects, Construction Specifications Institute, American Society of Home Inspectors, Earl Swensson & Associates, Architects, Thomas Miller and Partners, Architects, GAF Corporation, Tennessee Association of Roofing Contractors, and the American Bar Association's Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel. He was appointed to the Southern Building Code Congress International's Roofing Ad Hoc Committee for the 2000 International Building Code. In the past, he had received the U. S. Department of State's Top Secret Clearance for work on the U. S. Embassy in Damascus, Syria.

Mr. McCampbell has also worked as an expert witness over two hundred and fifty legal cases involving litigation, mediation, and arbitration, representing both plaintiffs and defendants.
